Program: Navigating the Mental Load of HR - Creating a Place for Innovation & Freedom
You know the scene — you're reviewing performance evaluations, fielding calls from
training/development vendors as well as benefits vendors, checking with that employee in crisis and answering emails — at the same time. All the while, you are being peppered with questions by your team, colleagues and managers, “Can we give more money?", “What should I do about Joe?", “Will you find us some help?", “How do I handle that?".
But even if you know this experience well, you may not have the language to describe it.
The mental load is all the mental work - the organizing, list-making and planning – you do to manage the Human Resources of the organization, and that of those dependent on you. Most of us carry some form of mental load, about our work, household responsibilities, financial obligations and personal life; but what makes up that burden and how it's distributed within organizations is not always equal.
This mental load creates stress and resentment, can lead to isolation and burdens one’s whole self. Professionally, it may generate responsibilities and obligations that may or may not actually exist. The stress created limits innovation and freedom. Becoming aware of your mental load, how it’s affecting you and how you respond can alleviate some of the stress. Choosing what gets added, removed and how heavy the load can be is empowering. We’ll navigate through the load and lift a bit of the pressure so you can find energy for innovation and feel a sense of freedom in your choices.
Program Objectives:
• Clarify your mental load within the organization and define it.
• Identify how you are currently responding to the load both positively and negatively.
• Set goals to manage, minimize or delegate your current mental load.
• Chart a vision for the future of HR and yourself.
Presenter: Rachel Keck
Rachel’s Driving Force in life is to create opportunities for raw faith. In other words, making time and space for learning, unlearning, questions, shifts in understanding and perspective. That driving force is driven by values of family, mindfulness and meaningful work.
All that was ignited in a Psychology class in high school, then fueled in college, studying both Psychology and Sociology. She has always been drawn to what connects people both to themselves and to others, as well as what disconnects. Her mission is to integrate more and more of her self each day and invite others to do the same.
Rachel has been both a trainer and salesperson for training. She has worked in the training industry for 10 years. For the last three years, she’s been fortunate enough to study the art of listening through a program in Atchison, Kansas. It has been incredibly transformative and helped her to listen and understand in fresh ways.
Rachel brings a strong curiosity and the ability to listen in a way that deepens understanding and grows awareness.
We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, May 8th!
