Diversity Spotlight: Fahteema Parrish

Fahteema Parrish is a Kansas City native. She is the Founder and President of Parrish and Sons Construction company, a 100% minority women-owned construction company. Fahteema’s drive to own her own construction company stemmed from a young age where she watched her parents run and operate their own HVAC business. Growing up she got to see both aspects of running a successful company, watching her father do property inspections and field work while also watching her mother handle the abundant accounting aspects. Watching the success of her parents motivated her to take the skills she learned and run with them.

Before jumping straight into the construction industry Fahteema spent about 20 years in the Technology Industry learning skills such as computer programming, systems analysis, design & process innovation. This helped her when she ventured into the construction industry where she built her foundation for Parrish & Sons Construction through completing her OSHA 30,  CDL and completed various accelerated Construction Management Programs which consisted of JEDunn Minority Development Program, Turner School of Construction Management, Next Stage KC & Kansas City Strategic Partnership Program with CWC & Edgemoor, and UMKC Growth Elevation Lab. After completing such achievements Parrish & Sons Construction LLC was founded on January 28^th, 2015.

When asked, “What is your ultimate goal and vision for Parrish & Sons?” Fahteema stated, “I want to build a solid foundation for my company that way I can bring my sons into it; they can have something to continue passing on down for generations in the future and continue serving the community”.  Within the next 5-10 years Fahteema plans on having a fully functional headquarters, three equipment yards in the KC area, a Denver location, Iowa & Nebraska projects, multi-year service-based contracts, federal, state, local, county projects, and to have obtained an 8A certification.

What sets Parrish & Sons Construction apart from other companies is that they are truly and honestly 100% women owned and operated, the women are qualified in more ways than one like having the ability to go out into the field operate machinery and heavy equipment whilst being able to run the back office to lead the Executive Team simultaneously.
